TILLETT, LYNN GARRETT ---age 90, passed away at his home in Corryton on October 19, 2016, after a short illness. Mr. Tillett was a graduate of Gibbs High School, an Air Force WWII Veteran, an inventor, a tinkerer, a musician, and an electronics buff. He was one of the first to teach television technology in the East Tennessee region when TV first came to this area. Over the years, Lynn taught himself to play ukulele, guitar, banjo, and a little fiddle. He had a few guitar lessons with Chet Atkins. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Randall and Artie Tillett; brothers, Lib, Bill, Lowell, and Jack.
Survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Warwick Tillett; children, Lynnda (and Lynn) Tenpenny, Melanie Richards (and Dwight Tadlock) and Geoff (and Julie ) Tillett.
Lynn was a member of Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank church members who have so graciously and generously supported them. Special thanks to Glenna Hutchison, a good friend and helping hand. And much gratitude to caregivers Angie Williams, Kim and Kenny Collins. Thanks also to Kent and Carolyn Peters, for being there for both of them when needed, plus other cousins, family and friends--you know who you are!
Pallbearers are nephews, Kent Peters, Joe Longmire, Dale Longmire, Jackie Tillett, Randy Tillett, Gordon Tillett, and Ray Tillett. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Martin, Charlie Harrell, Tony Ingram, Randy Neubert, Nick Peters, Charlie Little, Eli Turpin, Bill Von Schippman, and Jerry Browning.
The family will receive friends 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, October 21 at Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church, 7815 Corryton Road, Corryton 37721. Funeral services will follow with Reverend Doug Wilder officiating, assisted by Reverend Steve Doyal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rutherford Memorial UMC at the above address. Family and friends will meet at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 12 noon graveside service and interment.
