John Harrison Cooper (born 5/2/1923) went to be with his Lord Friday, April 27, 2018.

He was a survivor of World War II and a German prisoner of war. He was a chemical engineer with ORNL for over 33 years, and member of Smithwood Baptist Church since 1952 where he was a Sunday School teacher and deacon.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty Jean Proctor Cooper; father, Karl S. Cooper; mother, Bertha M. Cooper; and sister, Christine C. Miller.

He is survived by his sons, John H. (Harry) Cooper, Jr. and wife Teresa C. Cooper, Nick S. Cooper and wife Peggy Cooper; grandchildren, Russell H. Cooper (wife Khristy), Jason W. Cooper (wife Stephanie), Matthew Ryan Cooper (wife Amanda), and Lindsay M. Ray; 20 great-grandchildren

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Lane officiating.

The family will meet Tuesday Morning at Greenwood Cemetery for a private graveside service and interment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smithwood Baptist Church, 4914 Jacksboro Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918.
