James “Chick” Nichols - age 90, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at UT Medical Center. He was retired from the Knox County Highway Department and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a true fighter, surviving many health issues. Chick was a man of many talents. No task was too hard for him to tackle. He lived a life full of pride and happiness. He wouldn’t want us to focus on the sadness of his death, but the long life he lived doing the things he loved to do. Chick loved gardening, working on cars, fishing and spending time with his family. He was truly one of a kind and will be loved and missed by so many.
Preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Nichols; son, Robert Nichols; sister, Edna Nichols; brother, Alfred Hurst; stepson, Butch Cloninger; parents, Gladys and J.C. Hurst, and special friend, Janette Lane.
Survivors: sons, Jeff Nichols and Jack Nichols; granddaughter and husband, Ashley and Grant Jones; great-granddaughter-to-be, Ava Rose Jones; step-daughters, Judy Weaver, Jean Baldwin, Kay Kirby.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday followed by a 6:00 p.m. funeral service in Stevens Chapel with Reverend Buddy Garland officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Monday at Mt.
