Hilda Smith Archer age 92, of Knoxville
September 16, 1926 - October 26, 2018
Our sweet Momma went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, October 26, 2018, and was lovingly greeted by our Daddy Odra, our sister Sharon and all her family members who preceded her, likely with ice cream sandwiches at their reunion!
Survived by her daughter Darlene Bolding (Barry), daughter Rhonda Ward (Mark), and son Dwayne Archer (Amy); grandchildren Dawn Walsh (Walt), Whitney Bradbury (Paul), Cassie Griffin (Jimmy Kester), Brandon Bolding (Jen), Hailey Ward, Blake Ward, Madi Archer, Riley Archer, Lydia Turpin; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Born in Tater Valley in Grainger County, Momma, her mother, brother, and two sisters moved to Knoxville when she was 16 after her father passed away. She went to work at the Standard Knitting Mills until she met her future husband, Odra, on a blind date. After a six-week courtship they eloped and were married on December 17, 1948. They remained married for 60 years until Daddy’s death in 2009. Momma was a 60-year member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church and continued to watch the services on television even after she was unable to attend. Sassy and fiercely independent, Momma lived alone until her final few years. When she was unable to live alone any longer, we were fortunate to find three incredible caregivers to stay with her. Our immeasurable gratitude goes to Peggy Russell, Jenny Hatfield and Starlie Chavez for caring for Momma like a member of their own family! Special thanks to University of Tennessee Medical Center Hospice and especially the nurses for their compassionate care of Momma in her final days.
Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Stevens Mortuary. Family and friends will meet 11:15 a.m. Monday at the mortuary to go in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for a 12:00 noon entombment service with Rev. Kent Williams officiating. Serving the family, Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway.
