Obituary

DOT LEE MERRELL - age 95, of Knoxville, passed away comfortably and very peacefully Wednesday, February 10, 2016.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, a Sunday School teacher in the Children's Department for 49 years, and member of the Joymakers choir. She was a member of the Flower Lover's Garden Club, and was a retired substitute teacher in the Knoxville City Schools and Knox County Schools where she tutored many students. She remained active her whole life, serving others and traveling with her husband who was a retired engineer with the Southern Railway and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Dennis Merrell; parents, Sam and Senia Lee; sisters and brothers, Gertrude Mayfield, Harold Lee, Evelyn Crockett, Velma Huling, and Dewey Lee.

Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Ron Collins; daughter, Sharon Merrell Barnes all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kevin Barnes, and Kristi Neff (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Sydney and Rece Burleson, Kiara Barnes, and Journie Neff; sister-in-law, Polly Lee of Knoxville; special life-long friends, Jeanette Hansard, Louise and C.S. Patty; many special nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Shannondale Healthcare Center for their loving care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, 5364 North Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37918.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway, Reverend Ron Mouser officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral service. Interment will be private.
