Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Lucille Ailor Bales entered the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on August 6, 2016.

Dottie was born to the late Ernest and Beulah Huskisson Ailor on January 11, 1927 in Knoxville, TN. She grew up in the Oakwood community of North Knoxville and attended Old Knoxville High School. She cherished memories of her childhood summers spent at the family cabin in the "Sunshine" area of Townsend near the river. She also shared many stories of visiting her grandmother's home as a child on Ailor Avenue in Knoxville.
Dottie was blessed with a large and loving family. She married the love of her life Marvin Carroll Bales on January 11, 1947. Together they raised three children in a home filled with love, biblical values, and laughter. Dottie's devotion to her children and grandchildren was her passion. She was an amazing cook and could whip up a delicious cake for any occasion. She loved all of God's creation. Flowers graced the yard of her home and with her green thumb she could take a single leaf and grow a vibrant plant. She also cherished feeding the wild birds and identifying migratory birds at her feeders. The Smokey Mountains and her beach trips to Longboat Key, Florida were her favorite destinations. Dottie was a follower of Jesus Christ and a long time member of St Mark United Methodist Church where she had many precious friends and made many memories.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Marvin, beloved brothers, Ernest Ailor Jr. and Lillard Earle Ailor (Mildred); beloved sisters Kathlyn Ailor May (Lloyd) and Ernestine Ailor Bell (Charlie).
She is survived by her faithful son Steve Bales (Linda); her loving daughters Dianne Bales Spear (Don) and Sharon Bales Kinder (Gary); cherished grandchildren Jeff Bales (Heather), Jennifer Bales Beard (Scott), Rebecca Bales Payne (Brian), Kimberly Spear Preyer (Rhyan), Erin Spear Brock (James), Michael Prince (Abbie), Daniel Prince, Meghan Prince Hamby (Clay), Libby Kinder (Stephen) all of Knoxville, Katie Balch (Peter), Atlanta, Meghan Kinder, San Francisco, Gary Kinder (Ashley), Phoenix, and 23 precious great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
