Dottie was born to the late Ernest and Beulah Huskisson Ailor on January 11, 1927 in Knoxville, TN. She grew up in the Oakwood community of North Knoxville and attended Old Knoxville High School. She cherished memories of her childhood summers spent at the family cabin in the "Sunshine" area of Townsend near the river. She also cherished feeding the wild birds and identifying migratory birds at her feeders. The Smokey Mountains and her beach trips to Longboat Key, Florida were her favorite destinations.
