Vandergriff, Virgie Stephens--age 88 of Corryton, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Kindred-Northhaven Healthcare. She was a member of Smithwood Baptist Church. Virgie was an avid fan and supporter of U. T. Athletics, especially the Lady Vols Basketball Team.
Preceded in death by husband, John E. (Vandy) Vandergriff; son, Ronnie Dyer; twin brother, Randall (Bud) Stephens; parents, Oron and Elizabeth Mynatt Stephens; sisters, Debbie Othella Stephens and Ruth Dunsmore; brothers, Thomas C. Stevens and Kenneth Stephens; sister-in-law, Emma Lee Gault.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Tennessee, 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919-6340 or Smithwood Baptist Church Building Fund. The family extends their appreciation to Trudy Durham and all the staff of Kindred-Northhaven Healthcare for their care and compassion.
Survivors: daughter, Sharon Coffman of Corryton; grandchildren, Eddie and wife Kathleen Coffman of New Jersey, Kevin and wife Heidi Coffman of Halls, Michal Parsons; great grandchildren: Taylor Coffman, Jordan Coffman, Zach Miracle, Cayden Coffman, Logan Peters, Billy Bartus, Nick Bartus, Alex Coffman, Madeline Cantwell, and Amelia Cantwell; special family members, Stephen and Victoria Coffman and Vicky Lynn Coffman; special sister-in- law, Bernice C. Stevens and special friend, Mary E. Cantwell; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 8:00 p.m. Friday in Stevens Chapel with Rev. Bobby Lay officiating.
Family and friends will meet 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service and interment with Dr. David Crutchley and Rev. Bobby Lay officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Coffman, Kevin Coffman, Zach Miracle, Cayden Coffman, and Eddie Mayes.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at N. Broadway.
