Williams, Sylvia Y.—age 82, passed away peacefully in her home in Knoxville, TN, on March 3, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Seymour, TX, on November 11, 1935 to Leon Gilford and Jessie Zelma (Bishop) Williams, Sylvia held a master’s degree in clinical psychology and volunteered lots of her time counseling underprivileged children in the school system. As a young lady, she was talented in speech and drama. She won many medals and ribbons for her fine performances on the stage and was awarded a college scholarship for speech and drama.
Ms. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margie; brother, Kenneth; and 3 beloved children: Ida Elaine, Katherine Lynne, and James Edward.
Sylvia is survived by her brother, Donnie Lee; 4 grandchildren, Nicholas Phillips, Camilla Hephner and husband Matt, Caleb Williams, and Jesse Ezell; 3 great grandchildren, Cruz, Noah, and Asher Hephner; and many other close friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Knoxville at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 16. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knoxville Dream Center.
