Ronald H. Smith age 89, of Knoxville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 26, 2017. He was proud of his family and his work. More important, he believed it was his duty to serve the Lord and he did so in many ways, including teaching a Men’s Sunday School Class that he called his “Bricks”. There is another thing he was proud of, and that was his time serving our country during the Korean Conflict in 1951-1952. During his time there he was active in many engagements as a platoon sergeant, SFC, in the Combat Engineers in the 7th Infantry Division, as part of the 278th RCT.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, O.T. and Audrey; and his wife of 68 years, Margaret.
He leaves to rejoice in his memory his son, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Carolyn; grandson, Shane; brother, Benny and wife Mary; nephew, Tommy and his family; niece, Loretta Sue and her family; as well as a nephew on Margaret’s side of the family, Sidney and his sons, Brian and Brent and their families; niece, Samia, her husband, Eddie and son, Eric.
Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2017 at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church followed by a funeral service at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Kent Williams officiating. Family and friends will meet 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway for a 9:30 a.m. committal service with military honors presented by the East Tennessee Veteran Honor Guard.
