Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Roberts, 86, passed away peacefully
December 13, 2016 surrounded by her family. She battled
Pulmonary Fibrosis. Her sweetheart of 70 years, William (Bill),
were married for 67 years. She was a faithful spouse while Bill
served in the Korean War nursing him back to health when
he returned in 1950. She was born on November 29, 1930 and
celebrated her 86th birthday after moving to Memphis in
September so they could live with family. Liz spent her life taking
care of her family and anyone who needed a helping hand.
She was a faithful and compassionate friend to everyone she
knew – always willing to listen and love on those blessed to be
in her presence. She was nurturing, kind and generous. She
was born in Old Hickory Tennessee, worked at the local bank
in Goodlettsville, and when she and Bill moved to Knoxville in
1960, she was very involved in her church, Smithwood Baptist
Church, taught Sunday School for 22 years and faithfully volunteered
for 13 years at Contact Ministries.
Mary Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents,
Stanton and Eva Gibbs. Liz and Bill have three children, Vicki
Roberts Nobles (Larry), Bill Roberts Jr., Linda Anne Roberts
Guy (Charlie); five grandchildren, Shelli Nobles Henry (Sam),
Bethany Nobles Chu (Jonathan), Cayce Guy, Andy Guy, Ashlie
Roberts; six great-grandchildren, Andersen Henry, Luke Henry,
Colton Henry, Lydia Chu, Penny Chu, Noah Barraza. She is survived
by her sisters, Jo Gibbs Sanders (Owen), Linda Faye Gibbs
Briggs (Wayne), and her adored dog, Abby.
Service will be held at Steven's Mortuary, Oglewood avenue at North Broadway on Saturday, December 17th at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. David Crutchley officiating.
Visitation will be Noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow
at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made to Smithwood Baptist Church, 4914
