Reverend Mac A. Hayes of Mascot passed away May 28, 2017. He was born in Blaine on January 5, 1944. Mac served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of Knoxville Utilities Board and a Baptist Minister. Mac was a faithful member of Holston Baptist Church. He was a licensed barber and enjoyed cutting hair for his family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening. His greatest love, however, was his family.
Preceded in death by parents, Wesley and Ruby Hayes and brother, Raymond Hayes. Mac is survived by wife, Janet Hayes; sons Gerald (Heather) and Tracy (Janet); grandchildren, Macy, Cooper, Sydnie, and Adison; sister, Della Mae Chandler; brother Floyd Hayes (Iva); sister-in-law, LuAnn Stinnett; special friends, Keith and Carol Strevel, Liz Collins, Bruce Dukes; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Thursday at Holston Baptist Church located at 1012 Andrew Johnson Hwy, Strawberry Plains. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm. Reverend Toby Downey and Reverend Jack Kirkland officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Friday at Eastview Memorial Gardens located at 1320 Andrew Johnson Hwy. for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment with military honors presented by Volunteer State Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Floyd Hayes, Tim Hayes, Daryl Chandler, Tony Chandler, Doug Hayes, Cooper Hayes, Keith Strevel, Thurman Shuler. Serving the family, Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway.
