MABEL ACUFF - passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, one week after celebrating her 103rd birthday.
She was the widow of Herbert Acuff, longtime director of Central Accounting for Knox County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Cora Wolfe; and her brother, James Von Wolfe.
Mabel retired as a teacher from the Knox County School System in 1978 after over 40 years of service. Most of those years were spent at Gibbs High School where she taught English and was later a guidance counselor. She was a longtime member of Little Flat Creek Baptist Church where she served faithfully, until a few months ago, as a Sunday School teacher to senior adults, led a weekly women's Bible study, and played the piano when needed.
Survivors include her son Gary, and his wife Ann, grandsons Bryan and David, and David's wife Jennifer. There are two great-grandchildren, Hanna and Dylan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Jerry Baltimore officiating.
The family and friends will meet 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a graveside service and interment at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Brandon, Jerrad, and Tom Kidd, David and Bryan Acuff, Mark and DeWayne Douglas, and Carl Rose.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Flat Creek Baptist Church Auditorium Renovation Fund, 9132 E. Emery Road, Corryton, TN 37721.
