Smith, John Preston—age 56 of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at home. John was a loving and faithful husband and Sylvia's best friend. And he was a loving father to Preston.. He was a member of West End Baptist Church and was employed by People to Places. John was a 1973 graduate of Rule High School. He retired from KCDC after 22 years and was a longtime employee of Sea Ray-Riverview.
Preceded in death by father, William T. Smith, Sr.; and mother-in-law Neva Buckner.
Survived by wife of 36 years, Sylvia Smith of Halls; son, Preston Smith and Whitley French of South Knoxville; mother, Laura Imogene Smith of Knoxville; father-in-law, A. J. Buckner, Jr. of Knoxville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Roberta and Mike Sledge of Dandridge, Jeanne and Roy Arnwine of Morristown, Bessie and Darrell Sammons of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Yvonne Smith of Knoxville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ronald D. Spears, Jr. and Gena; niece, Anna Spears of Corryton; Special friends, Karen and Larry Medley of Knoxville and special friend Brenda Pratt of New Market; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 7:00 p.m. Thursday in Stevens Chapel with Rev. Mike Sledge and Rev. Bill Smith officiating.
Family and friends will meet 2:45 p.m. Friday at Stevens Mortuary to go in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for a 3:30 p.m. graveside service and interment.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at N. Broadway.
