Blankenship, John L. age 86, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Tennova Residential Hospice. He was a member of Smithwood Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a Deacon and member of the Disciples/Gideon Class for over 40 years. He visited the Holy Land and made trips with the Keenagers. He enjoyed working with the teenagers at Smithwood Baptist Church and with senior friends growing vegetables. He served for 15 years as an Inskip Lions Cub member. He was employed by Healthco Dental Supply and was the Dental Equipment Service Manager and Sales Manager.
Preceded in death by wife, Nina W. Blankenship; parents, Addie Lee and Nora Mae Blankenship; grandson, Mark Blankenship; brothers, Fred Blankenship and Archie Blankenship; sister, Mary Elizabeth Blankenship.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joy Blankenship; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tim Connors; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Mary Grace Blankenship; granddaughters, Leigh Ann Connors Stephens, Leslie Connors and Bonny Blankenship; great granddaughter, Anna Grace Stephens; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Billy Hall; sister, Ethel Raby; sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Howard Wallace; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Biggs Blankenship and Betty Davis Blankenship; several nieces and nephews; special and loving friends, including best friends Ray Everett, Elmer Sharp, Dr. Bob Greer, Dr. Claude Wood, Jr. and Dr. Mark Crumptom; and "the Lunch Bunch".
A special thanks to the caregivers of Senior Home Health Assistance, Amedisys Hospice and Tennova Residential Hospice for their loving care and kindness. Celebration of life service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 at Stevens Chapel with Dr. C. Glen Sullivan officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment with Dr. Mark Gaskins officiating. Honorary pallbearers: Nicky Blankenship, Tim Connors, Ray Everett, Billy Hall, Ken Holbert, Perry Pratt, Elmer Sharp, Howard Wallace and David White. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fountain City Ministry Center, P.O. Box 5311, Knoxville, TN 37918. Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Stevens Mortuary, 1304 Oglewood Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.
