Master Sergeant James “Jimmy” Barnes (U.S. Air Force Retired) age 84, of Corryton, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 12, 2017. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Retired from U.S. Air Force serving in Korea and Vietnam . He also retired from the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee. He loved his Bluegrass music.
Preceded in death by parents; Clarence and Exie Barnes; brother, Erwin Barnes; sisters, Pauline Quinn, Mavis Overton, and Virginia Thornton.
Survivors: loving wife of 60 years, Juanita Jarnagin Barnes; daughters, Rhonda (Mike) Mills, Glenda (Larry) Davis; son, Duane (Sandie) Barnes; grandchildren, Jeremy Mills, Matthew Mills, Casey Barnes, Kristin Bloom, Julie Tovar and Anita Barnes; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise (David) Poteet and Pat (Robert ) Moreau; several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Tuesday August 15, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary . Chapel service will follow at 7p.m. with Reverend Jerry Baltimore officiating. Family and friends will meet at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday for a 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. Pallbearers: Duane Barnes, Larry Davis, Frank Cassidy, Cody Cassidy, Matthew Mills and Shawn Troutt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 or to the charity of your choice.
