James “Bud” Brooks, age 69, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away at Vanderbilt University Hospital on Wednesday, March 7th.
Bud was a graduate of East Tennessee State University, and spent his life working in Advertising and Marketing. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden and loved devoting his talents of staging and lighting to the music ministry there. Bud was a kind, considerate, hardworking man that put others before himself. He loved his family unconditionally, adoring his only son Blakely as he watched him achieve his goals thru his college years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. W. and Reba Brooks; father and mother-in-law, Ed and Virginia Inklebarger.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Brooks of Knoxville; son, Dr. Benjamin Blakely Brooks of Greenville, North Carolina; brother, Jerry (Nikki) Brooks; sisters, O’Neta (Buddy) Miles, and Lynn Brooks all of Kingsport; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In 2010, after failing health, Bud was the recipient of two “new lungs” that enabled him to live
7½ more years. Much gratitude goes to Dr. Grogan and the transplant team at Vanderbilt.
He fought valiantly thru these transplant years never complaining or wanting to inconvenience
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17th at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Wendell Boertje, friend of 32 years, officiating.
