Edgar Gene Miller, age 93, of Powell, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018. He was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In WWII, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge under General George Patton, 35th Infantry Division, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Edgar retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory after 38 years of service. He was a charter member of the Powell Lion’s Club, a Scoutmaster for the Powell Boy Scouts, and a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
Edgar is preceded in death by parents, Edgar Alfred Miller and Marian Bruner Miller; wife, Mary Christine Cooper Miller; and daughter, Mary Jean Miller.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Al Miller (Susan) and Bill Miller (Cathy); grandchildren, Bradley Miller (April), Maggie Miller, Jeremy Fraser (Heather) and Christian Fraser (Wren); great grandchildren, Avery and Wyatt Miller and Adam Fraser.
Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 10th at Stevens Mortuary followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm. with The Reverend Dr. Thomas Sweet and The Reverend Fran Vickers officiating.
Family and friends will meet Tuesday, December 11th at 10:45 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment.
