CARLSON, DR. JAMES A. D.O., F.A.O.A.S. - age 77, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at his home.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Knoxville, and attended Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Norris. Dr. Carlson received his B.S. Degree from the University of Nebraska, graduated from the Hermann Hospital School of Physical Therapy, and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and practiced in Knoxville from 1973 to 2008. He served in the US Army and was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Merle Carlson.

Survivors: wife, Brenda Ezell Carlson; daughter, Susan Carlson, daughter and son-in-law, Ann C. and David Hall, sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Michael and Karen Carlson, Daniel and Courtnay Carlson, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Douglas and Kristen Hall, Rachel, Daniel, John Paul, David, Stephen, and Mark Carlson; sister, Sister Lois Jean Carlson of Kearney, Nebraska; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Jacque Carlson of Wharton, Texas, Charlie and Carolyn Carlson of Boise, Idaho, Don and Susie Carlson also of Wharton, Texas; brother, Father Gerry Carlson of Grand Island, Nebraska; step children, Elaina Earps and husband Greg of Niota, Tennessee, and Dean Yasko of Knoxville; step-grandchildren, Nicholas and Braden Earps; several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Dr. Carlson at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Hwy. 61, Norris, Tennessee with Father Bill Gahagan officiating. Interment will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday with Recitation of the Rosary at 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at N. Broadway.
