Chester George (“Chet” to most who knew him) Kilgore age 75 died at his beloved mountain home in Pineville, KY on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. He was an avid preservationist. Member of Knox Heritage and former member of the Board of Directors & Chair of the Education Committee. Long time member of the Board of Directors of Old North Knoxville, Inc, 17 year member of the Holiday Home Tour Committee, 15 year Liaison to Historic Zoning Commission. Chet was MPC Commissioner 2003-2007 where he gave voice to the concerns of neighborhoods and preservation issues. He served at the request of then Mayor Victor Ashe on The Mayor’s Task Force for Historic Preservation which formulated many of the policies now in place in city government to address historic preservation objectives and concerns. Recipient of several preservation awards including Lifetime Achievement from Knox Heritage. Retired manager of Cleveland’s Inc. after 16 years in a business he truly loved. Past Jaycee member. Former radio disk jockey in the 60’s. Past member of Beaver Brook Country Club. Confirmed member of First Lutheran Church where he served as acolyte as a child and also during the dedication service of the current church building. He graduated with a firm foundation from First Lutheran School.

Preceded in death by mother, Marianne Heins Denney; father, Chester M. Kilgore; aunt, Margaret Heins Kinnick.

Survivors: life partner, Del Hubbard; best friend, Billy Roberts; several cousins. Also survived by many dear and close friends across the country and in Knoxville, chief among those, Lou Russell, Lonnie Gowan, Phebe Day, Julia Tucker and Ann Bennett.

Memorial service 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Stevens Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Old North Knoxville, Inc., P.O. Box 3896, Knoxville, TN 37927, or East Tennessee Historical Society, P.O. Box 1629, Knoxville, TN 37901. Serving the family, Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway.
