Obituary

McKinney, Charles Harvey age 73, of Knoxville, TN died 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the old St. Mary's Hospital of an apparent heart attack. He was retired from being a maintenance worker at the old Eastern State Hospital after 30 years of service. He was well known by many of his neighbors on Oglewood Avenue as well as the church members of the First Baptist Church on Main Street.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Frank McKinney and mother, Betty Burnette McKinney.

When Charles was a small child his parents realized that he was a "special child" with a mild form of autism, later known as Aspergers. He demonstrated his excellent memory and recall of events and could recall many verses in the Bible. His mother trained her son to respect others and live a "Godly" life and to study the Bible and to be faithful and thankful for his good fortunes by praying through Jesus Christ. Proverbs 22: 6, Train up a child in the way he should go ( and in keeping with his individual gift or bent) and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Charles followed each of these "Godly" principles throughout his life and seldom departed from it. He enjoyed visiting with members of his Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. A short memorial service in celebration of his memory and of his life is planned on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Main Street where his neighbors and members of the church are asked to attend and say fairwell to Charles. Serving the family, Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway.
