Charles Leslie Smith, 81, passed away at home in Lebanon, TN on June 25, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. Charles was a life-long resident of Knox County, TN until moving to Lebanon in 2015. After serving our Country in the US Army, Charles had a long career as a commercial artist and sign painter. He was a man of few words but was generous in donating his time and talents to help his friends and Church. He was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church.
Charles was preceded in death by first wife, Sandra Burton Smith; parents, Elmer and Elizabeth Lea Smith, and brother, Otie Smith.
He is survived by his best friend and wife, Helen Stroud Smith; daughter, Donna Smith Ritter (Michael); step-daughters, Jackie Andersen, Jan Young and Jill Trapp (Wayne); grandchildren, Christopher, Trevor and Dylan Ritter, Joshua Penery (Cynthia), Jodi Young, Jay Underwood and Joel Underwood (Amber); great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Jayden Penery and Hayden Underwood.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway. A chapel service will follow at 7 p.m., Reverend Kent Williams officiating. The family and friends will meet 9:45 a.m. Tuesday June 28 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens (Claxton) for a graveside service and interment at 10 a.m.
