Ann Elizabeth DeClue Adkins of Powell, TN, was born December 2, 1930, and passed peacefully, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at home, embraced by family, after a 13-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Ann was a life-long member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years and was active in many roles. She was preceded in death by parents Burt and Catherine DeClue, brother David, husband Spencer, and son Mike. She was the loving and cherished Mother of Mike, Steve (Bella), Susan, and Julie. She is survived by 8 grandchildren - Staci, William, Michael, Ashley, Erin, Spencer, Danny and Paul, 14 great grandchildren, and countless friends.
Ann was devoted to helping others through her everyday life and her volunteer work. She retired from the Knox County Clerk’s office after 22 years of service and then gave of herself and her time as a volunteer with the Ft. Sanders’ Hospital Auxiliary and The Ladies of Charity. She had a passion for flowers and was a long-time member of the Niota Garden Club in Powell. The tireless Mother of the Adkins clan exemplified strong faith, unconditional love, an open heart, and an amazing sense of humor. In Heaven’s Angelic choir, she’s singing Soprano.
The family would like to acknowledge Special friends Mary Catherine Willard and Betty High for their faithful and heartfelt friendships. The family would also like to thank Ann’s much-loved UT Hospice Nurse, Duane, and precious Hospice Volunteer, Shivani. We would like to express our gratitude to her flock of caregiving angels including Melody, Amanda, Sharon, and Colleen “Moo.”
Family will receive friends at Stevens Mortuary from 5-7 pm on Wednesday,
December 5, 2018 with a Christian Prayer Service to follow at 7 pm. A funeral Mass officiated by Fr. John Dowling will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church at noon on Thursday, December 6, 2018 with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park. John Higdon, John MacLellan, Jacki Haun, John MacDonald, Steve Clancy, and Chris Carrol will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Ladies of Charity or Young Williams Animal Center. Embraced in death by the Adkins girls.
